Sunnyside man sentenced to five years for attempted robbery

A 21-year-old Sunnyside man pled guilty last Friday in Yakima County Superior Court on charges of attempted robbery in the first degree.

Domingo Contreras-Mendoza was then sentenced to five years in prison.

The charge stems from an incident on Sept. 14 earlier this year when Contreras-Mendoza entered Valley View Market in Sunnyside with a mask and long coat on. At the time he entered the store the clerk was in the back and saw Contreras-Mendoza on store security cameras. He called police at that time.

When officers arrived they commanded Contreras-Mendoza to raise his hands. When he finally did a loaded .22 caliber rifle fell from his coat.
