Audra Hays enjoyed being on the Miss Sunnyside Court so much she decided to give the opportunity to others.
In a pageant where everyone's a winner, Hays is organizing the Holiday Princess Pageant for Sunday, Dec. 13.
"I was on the Miss Sunnyside Court and it was a lot of fun and it just inspired me to try this and give others a chance," she says of the Dec. 13 pageant, which is serving as her senior class project.
The holiday pageant will feature nine categories with up to 10 entries each. The categories are Baby Miss, 0 to 12 months; Tiny Miss, 13 to 24 months; Mini Miss, two to three years old; Little Miss, four to six years old; Young Miss, seven to nine years old; Pre-Teen, 10 to 12 years old; Junior Miss, 13 to 15 years old; Teen Miss, 16 to 19 years old; and Miss, 20 years old and up, single or married.
Participants will be judged based on casual wear, formal wear and an on-stage interview question.
One queen will be crowned in each age category. All entrants completing all areas of competition on stage will receive a crown and sash. Hays said the queen in each category will receive a larger crown.
Hays said the crowns and sashes are being donated by Miss Sunnyside Director Teri Alvarez-Ziegler.
The pageant will start at 1 p.m. on Dec. 13, with participants asked to show up at 11 a.m. for practice.
The registration deadline for the pageant is Friday, Dec. 4. Registration forms are available at Sunnyside High School classroom 134, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Additional information is also available by calling Hays at 830-2772 or 831-6665.
The pageant is tentatively set for St. Joseph's gym, though participants are encouraged to check with Hays for confirmation.
The pageant will assist local food banks, as each participant is asked to donate three cans of food or three non-perishable food items as their entry fee.
Those wanting to attend the pageant are asked to donate one can of food or a non-perishable food item.
