Shortly after 7 a.m. this morning, Monday, Sunnyside police responded to a traffic accident in the 900 block of Yakima Valley Highway that sent one young girl to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Police say William Swails of Grandview was traveling in the eastbound lane of Yakima Valley Highway in Sunnyside when three juveniles crossed the highway.
Due to sun glare Swails did not see the crossing juveniles when the oldest, a 12-year-ikd female, was struck by the vehicle Swails was driving. Two other juveniles, a 10-year-old and a seven-year-old, were not struck, but did receive minor injuries from the residual situation.
The 12-year-old was treated at a local hospital and was transported to Seattle. The other two juveniles have been treated and released.
In other police news there have been nine reports of theft and four burglaries since last Thursday.
The burglaries occurred in the 100 block of Parkland Drive, the 300 block of North 11th Street, the 1700 block of Cascade Way and the 1400 block of Ida Belle Road.
The thefts included four vehicles that were broken into, a stolen identity, stolen cellphones, a shoplifter, a stolen vehicle and a stereo stolen from a vehicle.
Also since Thursday police have dealt with seven animal complaints, three assaults, two citizen disputes, five reports of disorderly conduct, two fights, one report of graffiti, one report of harassment, six juvenile problems, one pursuit, one sex offense, five reports of loud music, five 9-1-1 hang up calls, six suspicious people or situations, two threats, 21 traffic stops, one report of trespassing, one utility emergency, one vehicle prowl and one violation of a no-contact order.
Police also served six arrest warrants and one court order, assisted four agencies and two citizens, provided two extra patrols, recovered one stolen vehicle, took one report of found property, provided four welfare checks and fielded seven informational calls.
