MABTON - A non-league soccer match between Mabton and Goldendale last night, Tuesday, ended in a 2-2 tie.
The game was a make-up game when the original match was canceled on Sept. 5.
Mabton Coach Lucia Tovar said the Goldendale Timberwolves came out strong against the Lady Vikes but it was Mabton that drew first blood.
Alma Leon was able to put Mabton on the board in the 25th minute of play when she was assisted by Marisela Leon to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
Goldendale responded 10 minutes later in the 35th minute when Mabton's keeper, Teresa Flores, came out from the box to try to get the ball. Goldendale's Andrea Keffer was able to get to it first and tap it slowly past the charging Flores.
The teams entered the halftime break tied 1-1 and the teams played nearly 20 minutes into the second half before anyone would score again.
Goldendale's Averie Morgan did the honors in the 68th minute of play when she scored on a penalty kick after a Mabton player fouled one of the Timberwolves in the 18-yard box.
Down 2-1, the Vikings fought back and scored in the 76th minute of play to tie the game at 2-2. This time it was Marisela Leon who got the goal and Alma Leon made the assist.
Tovar said it was a beautifully crossed pass into the far post that Marisela Leon was able to get to and put in the goal.
Tovar said her Lady Vikes were ready for overtime but since it was a non-league game the Goldendale coaches elected to stop play.
The Vikings had 11 shots on goal in the match and Flores made six saves.
Mabton (1-5, 1-9-1) will play the Timberwolves again on Thursday, Oct. 8, at Goldendale at 4 p.m. This match will be a league game.
