Murder victim identified

Workers from L.S. Fencing in Yakima attempt to re-do fencing along South First Street that provides construction sight and sound protection for homeowners in the area.

Jessica Barajas, 26, of Sunnyside has been identified as the female victim found shot four times in the head on Scoon Road north of Sunnyside yesterday (Monday).

Her body was found by orchard workers at approximately 5:30 a.m., and it was initially believed she had been shot in both the head and the upper body. The Yakima County Coroner concluded during an autopsy performed yesterday she was shot in the head, but no wounds were found on the torso.

Barajas, said Yakima County Sheriff's Chief of Detectives Stew Graham, has been known to lead a transient lifestyle and was last believed to be living at the Town House Motel in Sunnyside.

Her family has been notified of her death. She leaves behind four children, who are in the care of relatives.

A suspect has not yet been identified in the case and the sheriff's office is investigating the apparent murder.
