BICKLETON - The Lady Pirates, short key players Jamie Venema, Holly Goodnight and Star Kibby, lost 3-1 to Trout Lake/Glenwood last night.
Both Goodnight and Kibby were absent due to injuries and Venema was ill.
"This has been the year of illness, injury and ineligibility," commented Bickleton Coach Kim Clinton.
She had a total of nine players against Trout Lake/Glenwood, making it difficult to substitute from the bench.
As a result, Clinton started freshman Haley Goodnight. "She did a great job," Clinton shared.
Lady Pirate Katelynn Clinton stepped up and was able to block the ball six times and kill it four times.
"We came from behind in the first game and my girls showed a great mental toughness," Coach Clinton said.
Bickleton won the opening game of the night 25-19, but were held to 14 points in the second game.
Trout Lake/Glenwood won the second set 25-14 and continued their run on the Lady Pirates, winning 25-15, 25-17 in the final two sets of the match.
"We just never could get it (the play) going," said Clinton.
Bickleton will host Sunnyside Christian this coming Friday in the Lady Pirates' final home match of the regular season.
