City antes up $60,000 as its share of $150,000 payment to former employee

The Sunnyside City Council agreed to pay $60,000 to Jaime Alba, a former city employee.

Alba was terminated in 2007 by former Sunnyside City Manager Bob Stockwell. Her dismissal stemmed from a personal relationship she had with then Public Works Director Jim Bridges. She soon brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city.

The case was brought into mediation in Spokane and a mediator spent a day trying to work out an agreeable settlement with both sides.

It was agreed that Sunnyside's insurance company, Cities Insurance Association of Washington, would pay Alba $150,000, with Sunnyside paying $60,000 of that. There was no admission of liability on Sunnyside's part.

Sunnyside Mayor Pro-tem Jim Restucci said he was glad the city is finished with the lawsuit and is happy to be moving forward.

Alba had no comment on the settlement.
