DeAnn Hochhalter, vice chairman of the Sunnyside City Planning Commission, spoke to the Sunnyside City Council at last night's meeting and requested her comments be entered into record.
Hochhalter said the guest editorial by Sunnyside Planning Commission Chairman Brent Cleghorn published in the Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 issue of the Daily Sun News do not represent her views or that of the other commissioners.
Hochhalter said she spoke with commissioners Jeff Barrom, Francisco Guerrero and Stan Davis, and said all three asked her to relay to the council they didn't share Cleghorn's opinion.
Commissioner Davis sent a letter to the mayor, echoing Hochhalter's comments, and it was read into record by Sunnyside Mayor Pro-tem Jim Restucci.
The focus of Cleghorn's column was special interest groups in Sunnyside have convinced some members of the Sunnyside City Council and the planning commission to follow their lead, which has resulted in some property owners in Sunnyside losing their rights to do what they wish with their property.
Also at last night's council meeting, the council appointed Darrell Tadlock and Craig Hicks to the planning commission. The new additions bring the number of commissioners serving on the commission to seven.
