Broersma sets State meet qualifying time

ELLENSBURG - Sunnyside's Marisa Broersma finally met her benchmark goal of swimming a State meet qualifying time this past Saturday at the Central Washington University hosted pentathlon.

In the overall results, Broersma finished fourth out of more than 100 swimmers from Eastern Washington.

She took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:12.13 finish, a State meet qualifying time.

"She was quite pleased, as you could imagine," said Sunnyside Coach Jake Kessler.

Abbeigh Gurwell finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.96,

Broersma swam the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.08, the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.81, the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.81 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:30.18.

Gurwell swam the 100-yard backstroke in 2:04.21 and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:41.17.

The Lady Grizzlies next compete at the Mukilteo Invite in Federal Way on Oct. 3.
