Motorists beware...Sunnyside police officers are more than willing to issue a traffic citation that brings with it a $394 fine.
According to Sunnyside Police Officer Chico Rodriguez, there have already been three reported cases this school year of motorists passing school buses stopped in the roadway delivering children to their homes.
"When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, it's illegal for motorists to pass," said Rodriguez.
The flashing red lights indicate that children are getting off the bus and are crossing the roadway in front of motorists. Yellow flashing lights on a school bus indicate that the bus is about to stop in the roadway.
For the safety of children, Rodriguez said it is imperative that all motorists obey the law and drive with caution when they observe a school bus with children aboard.
