The Yakima County Sheriff's Office was yesterday (Thursday) at approximately 10:15 p.m. alerted by personnel at Sunnyside Community Hospital that a Mabton teen was en route to the hospital after having sustained a gunshot wound to the face.

Sunnyside boys score first victory of season

EAST WENATCHEE - The Sunnyside boys track team picked up its first win of the season, an 83-58 effort against Moses Lake at a track meet in East Wenatchee yesterday (Thursday) that featured Sunnyside, Eastmont, Wenatchee and Moses Lake. The boys lost to Wenatchee 100-45 and to Eastmont 83-62.

In a move that suggests that Homer Simpson has taken over for Colonel Sanders, Kentucky Fried Chicken has introduced a sandwich that uses fried chicken instead of bread, and bacon instead of chicken. Add a liberal helping of special sauce and a couple of slices of cheese and you have something that pretty much shows that the Colonel's gang has given up on their attempt to become known as simply "KFC" so people wouldn't associate the brand with only fried food.

Fleeing motorist crashes into parked car

This morning (Tuesday) just before 2:30 a.m. Sunnyside Police Officer Johnny Gusby witnessed a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed in the 300 block of West Edison Avenue. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect failed to pull over. A short pursuit took place before the driver, identified as Patricio Castillo, 38, crashed into a vehicle parked on West Edison Avenue.
