Dunbar statue plans proceed

The Bonnie Dunbar Bronze Committee held a meeting last Thursday, Feb. 25. They welcomed Ethel Dunbar, the mother of Bonnie Dunbar, who's been chosen to be honored with a statue of her likeness, and artist Desire Dawn to the meeting.

Dawn was on hand to show her work on the clay table model. Still lacking details, the committee is planning a day trip to Seattle where they will meet with Bonnie Dunbar at Seattle's Museum of Flight and Dawn will be able to photograph Dunbar's space suit, helmet and boots.

It was also revealed that Jeff Van Wingerdon, a student studying landscape design at WSU, has offered to donate the landscape design for the statue site.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, at the Mini Mall in Sunnyside.
