Lorraine Baysinger, 81, of Morton passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Morton Manor from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Lorraine was born June 4, 1928 in Brunswick, Maine. Lorraine's first language was French as her parents were from Montreal, Canada. When Lorraine was 12, she went to live with her grandparents in Montreal. She returned to the U.S. when she was 17 years old.
The Navy in Rhode Island hired Lorraine and there she met her future husband, Beauford "Boots" Baysinger. Boots and Lorraine were soon married and together, traveled across the U.S., finding themselves settling in Sunnyside.
She was a wonderful cook and brought many smiles to hungry tummies. The aroma of her homemade specialties included recipes from her French Canadian heritage.
Lorraine was an avid gardener, not only of fresh vegetables, but beautiful flowers as well. All throughout the winter months, she blessed her family with produce that she would can, pickle or freeze.
After all but one of their children left the nest, they became foster parents for the State of Washington as well as for the Casey Family Foundation in Yakima. During the course of those years, they opened their home and hearts to more than 40 foster children, ranging in age from infants to high school age.
Boots and Lorraine were married more than 50 years, when Boots succumbed to heart failure at the young age of 74.
Lorraine will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother. She had a unique spark about her and was very generous with her contagious laugh, beautiful smile and many hugs and kisses, even when firmly in the grip of Alzheimer's.
She will be truly missed by her family and all those who lovingly cared for her at Morton Manor.
During their life together they raised five children, Sherryn, Theresa, Tricia, Michael and Mark; she is also survived by 20 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, "Boots," and her five siblings.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima
A celebration of Lorraine's life will also be held Saturday, April 24, 2010, in Morton, at the Bob Lyle Community Center, from 1 to 4 p.m.
