MABTON - The Vikings are on a roll, with a second victory in as many matches.
Mabton's soccer team hosted Naches this past Saturday and earned the 6-3 win in spite of the Rangers taking an early lead.
Naches, according to Mabton Assistant Coach Mike Davis, was a formidable opponent.
The Rangers opened up the match with a goal by Brandon Ford at the two-minute mark. The Vikings, however, fought back and refused to let Naches penetrate the defense.
Seven minutes after the initial goal, Mabton equalized the match with a goal by Hector Brambila.
"The first half was fierce," shared Davis.
His team kept up the attack, but Ranger keeper Michael Swart kept the ball out of the goal box 21 times.
Mabton's Gilbert Garcia was finally able to slip the ball past Swart to put the Vikings up 2-1 going into the half.
Naches answered at the 45-minute mark. Ranger Nikko Libby put a goal in to tie the match.
It didn't take long for the Vikings to recover and gain the extra momentum. Mabton went on the attack, pushing through the defense. The ball was passed to Tony Espinoza, who was able to respond at the 54-minute mark with a tally.
The Vikings continued with the attack and eight minutes later, were able to push the ball up field to Juan Aquilar for the go ahead goal at the 62-minute mark.
Naches got a break and was able to get through the Viking defense two minutes later for another goal.
Making it clear the Vikings weren't going to allow the visitors the victory, Espinoza answered with another goal at the 70-minute mark.
Six minutes later, Brambila scored another goal for the final score of 6-3.
Mabton keeper Gerardo Barajas had a quiet match, keeping Naches from scoring on three other attempts.
Swart, however, was busy on the hustle with a total of 33 saves overall.
Mabton improved to 4-6-1 and will next take to the field at Granger this coming Thursday.
