Cruz V. Hernandez, 80, of Sunnyside passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Sunnyside.

She was born May 3, 1929 to Leonardo and Francisca (Martinez) Valdez.

Cruz attended schools in Texas.

On April 15, 1944, she married Estanislado "Tanis" T. Hernandez in Sunnyside, where they together made their home.

She enjoyed singing, dancing, sewing, cooking and playing dominos and was known as "Miss Domino Queen".

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Cruz is survived by her two daughters, Alice (Pete) Aguirre and Martha (Roberto) Rocha all of Sunnyside; five sons, Ray (Marsha) Hernandez of Albany, Ore., Lucas (Becki) Hernandez of Darrington, Hector (Holly) Hernandez of Lynnwood, Abel Hernandez of Kirkland and Rick (Veronica) Hernandez of Everett; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; four sisters, Feliciana Tijerana of Tri-Cities, Jacinta Ortega of Dallas, Texas, Ernestina Castellanos of Sunnyside and Dora Meza of Sunnyside; and two brothers, Jesus Valdez of Seattle and Luis Valdez of Yakima.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Minerva Hernandez; one sister, Julia Alanis; and one brother, Roberto Valdez.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 23, 2010, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
