MABTON - The Mabton Lady Viking softball team evened its league record at 2-2 this past Saturday with a convincing 11-0 and 13-4 doubleheader sweep of visiting Granger.
In game one, Mabton plated five runs in the third and six more runs in the fourth inning to give pitcher Mela Alcala all the run support she would need.
Mabton was led in the opener by Jackie Cruz with a two-run homer in the second frame to spark the Lady Vikes.
In game two, Mabton had to battle from behind as Granger nicked pitcher Jazzee Sustaita for two runs in the first inning.
But the Lady Vikes gave Sustaita all the run support she would need with five runs in the second inning.
While the Spartans could only muster two runs off of Sustaita the rest of the way, Mabton sealed the win in the third inning when Carisma Diaz smacked a grand slam home run.
"The girls did real well at hitting the ball," said Mabton Coach Jesus Sustaita.
Mabton, which pounded out 12 hits in game two, had a balanced hit parade as five batters collected two hits each. The five were Sustaita, 2-2; Cruz, 2-3; Alcala, 2-3; Shanika Zavala, 2-3; and Diaz, 2-3.
Mabton, which has a 4-7 record overall, returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, for a non-league match-up at home against Sunnyside Christian.
