OBITUARY

ISRAEL J. OLIVAREZ

Israel J. Olivarez, 82, of Mabton passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Yakima Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 31, 1928 in McAllen, Texas to Israel and Juanita (Zamora) Olivarez.

On Feb. 9, 1952 he married Silvestra (Martinez) Olivarez in McAllen. In 1958 they moved to Mabton, where he had currently resided.

He served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

He had worked for Yakima Chief Ranch as a mechanic for many years. He was also a bartender at the Silver Dollar, where many of his old time friends and new ones knew him as "El Boofalo".

He is survived by his loving wife, Silvestra (Martinez) Olivarez of Mabton; seven children, Irma (Fortunato) De Robles of Grandview, Alex (Maria) Olivarez of Kennewick, Velva Herrera, Ruben (Mary Ellen Martinez) Olivarez, Sandra Olivarez, Sammy Olivarez of Mabton and Adrian (Leah Montelongo) Olivarez of Prosser; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Cuevas of McAllen; and three brothers, Raul Olivarez and Daniel Olivarez, both of McAllen and Amado Olivarez of Pharr, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Israel and Juanita Olivarez; and one brother, Elias Olivarez.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 30, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, with burial to follow at Mabton Cemetery.
