The good news is that Sunnyside appears headed for a break from temperatures in the teens and even lower.
That's because the National Weather Service forecasts near normal temperatures during the month of December.
The bad news is that weather forecasters are also calling for above normal precipitation during December, which translates into more snow and/or rain.
Normal highs for Sunnyside during the month of December fall from 41.7 degrees at the start of the month to 38.8 degrees at the end of December. Normal lows fall from 26.7 degrees to 24.6 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.14 inches.
According to data recently released for the month of November, the average temperature for Sunnyside was 36.5 degrees, which was 4 degrees cooler than normal.
High temperatures for November averaged 45.2 degrees, which was 5 degrees below normal. The highest was 65 degrees on Nov. 3. Low temperatures averaged 27.8 degrees, which was 3.1 degrees below normal. The lowest was -1 degrees, on Nov. 24.
There were 17 days with the low temperature below freezing. There were eight days in November when the high temperature stayed below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled .80 inches during November, which was .15 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation - at least .01 inch - was received on 10 days with the heaviest, .27 inches reported on the 7th.
Snowfall in November totaled five inches with at least one inch of snow reported on three days. The heaviest snowfall was 2 inches reported on Nov. 30. The greatest depth of snow on the ground was three inches, also on Nov. 30.
