Grandview earns victory at SunDome

YAKIMA - The annual Hall of Fame Tip Off Classic at the SunDome in Yakima this past Saturday proved to be a success for the Grandview Greyhounds.

The 'Hounds earned a 49-43 victory over Mark Morris.

Grandview opened the game with a 15-14 lead over the Monarchs, a 2A team from Longview.

The 'Hounds continued to pressure Mark Morris and held the visiting team to just eight points in the second quarter.

Grandview led the game 26-22 at the half, thanks in part to going 3-for-11 from behind the 3-point arc.

The Monarchs, again, were outscored in the third quarter, 13-10.

The 'Hounds pretty much went tit-for-tat with Mark Morris in the final period, although Grandview had to contend with Rem Bakamus and teammate Tanner Brill, who combined in scoring a total of 28 points against Grandview.

Grandview's Tony Vela led his team, popping in 10 of 12 free throw shots. He added another 12 points with two three-point baskets and three other field goals.

Christian Schrank of Grandview scored an overall nine points, three of them from outside the three-point arc. He led the 'Hounds with four defensive rebounds and three assists, as well.

Four more balls were snatched from the glass on the defensive end by teammate Adrian Reyes. He also grabbed an offensive board.

Providing three assists each were Reyes and Daniel Nielsen.

Schrank, Vela, Nielson and teammate Salvadro Escobedo also caused two turnovers apiece.

Grandview's largest lead in the match-up against Mark Morris was by nine points.

The Greyhounds next travel to Sunnyside tomorrow (Tuesday) for a non-league match-up.
