ZILLAH - The Bickleton Lady Pirate varsity basketball team used a 26-8 third quarter run to pull away from the Zillah JV squad in a 65-40 victory last night, Thursday.
After a tight first quarter in which both teams scored six points, Bickleton opened up a double digit lead at the half, up 25-14.
The third quarter run, though, sealed the victory for Bicketon. Not even six three-pointers in the fourth quarter by Zillah could get the Leopards back in the game.
"We didn't really show up for this game completely until the second half," said Coach Emily Andrews.
Though a non-league contest, last night's win was a good experience for the Bickleton girls as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
"It was nice to go up against a team that plays a tight man to man and also to go up against an extremely physical team who pounded us under the basket," Andrews said.
Katelynn Clinton led Bickleton with 32 points, 19 rebounds and six steals.
Jamie Venema also had a double-double for the Lady Pirates with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with five steals.
The Bickleton varsity will enjoy a holiday break before retaking the court on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at home against the Ki-Be JV squad.
