Valley Heating & Air Conditioning closed after 62 years

It is the end of an era in Sunnyside. For 62 years Valley Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. has been taking care of the needs of Lower Valley residents. But on Nov. 30, the shop closed its doors for good.

John Bruekleman started the shop in 1948 as John's Tin Shop. He sold it to his son-in-law, Howard Redeker, who in turn sold it to his son-in-law, Bill Timmermans in 1975.

Linda Timmermans, the daughter of Redeker and the granddaughter of Bruekleman, said the decision was made to close the shop due to her husband Bill's death and other life-changing events.

"We have come to the realization that it is time for us to say good-bye to our company and look forward to new possibilities," she wrote in a letter to Valley Heating & Air Conditioning customers.

Bill and Linda's son, Dave, finished the last project for the shop this past weekend and now Linda will concentrate on liquidating remaining supplies and equipment. She also wants to sell the property located at 211 Lapin Avenue in Sunnyside. She said the property is commercially zoned and has a large warehouse and a rental property attached.

Linda Timmermans said she has been talking to other heating and air conditioning contractors that are interested in acquiring Valley Heating & Air Conditioning's customer list. She is asking customers who wish for her to take their names off the list to call 837-6400 and leave a message.
