Wellness Wednesdays continue this month in the Lower Valley, a partnership between the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Sunnyside Community Hospital.
Genoveva Ibarra is a project coordinator for Fred Hutchinson, and she said the hospital applied for and received a grant from the cancer research center.
"We work with the hospital and they do the glucose testing," Ibarra said of Wellness Wednesday events. If the test results are high, Ibarra said the patients are sent to the hospital for a fasting test.
For those patients who are found to have diabetes, Ibarra said Fred Hutchinson will offer free classes on diabetes and follow up with them for six months.
Ibarra said the plan is to try to offer 10 Wellness Wednesday events a month for glucose testing.
Sunnyside Community Hospital is starting its third year in the five-year grant cycle with Fred Hutchinson.
