Catherine Smith, 88, of Yakima and a longtime Sunnyside resident passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at her home in Yakima.

She was born May 6, 1921 in Juliaetta, Idaho, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Leach) Seymour.

She moved to Sunnyside at an early age.

On May 9, 1939 she married Ivan Smith.

Katie was a member of Sunnyside United Methodist Church, held local and state offices in Sunnyside, VFW Auxiliary and was active in the SunWa Garden Club.

Most remember her working at Haskins Variety Store and later as their Avon lady.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dee (Sammie) Alder and Judy (Richard) DeZarn; grandchildren, Roslin Alder, Sam (Steph) Alder, Billi (Chuck) Smith, Bob Ingram (Samantha); three great-granddaughters, Tomi (Josh) Heneghen, Marelle and Rachell Anderson; one great-great-grandson, Jordan Thomas Heneghen; three sisters, Barbara Clark, Hazel Scott and MaryLou Anderson; and two brothers, Don and Bill Green.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Green; her husband Ivan; one daughter, Billie Ann; two sisters, Mildred and Florence; and one granddaughter, Marelle.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at 1 p.m., at United Methodist Church in Sunnyside.

Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
