Breaking News: Granger Place Conoco robbed



Carmen "Nell" Barrett, 79, of Zillah went to be in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Yakima Regional Hospital following a brief illness. She was born, Dec. 9, 1930 in Old Union, Texas, the daughter of Desser Lee (Wall) Cannon and Denver Colorado Cannon.

Nell spent her early years in Ashdown, Ark., where she received her education. She moved to Sunnyside in 1955. For 33 years Nell was a librarian for the Yakima Valley Regional Library, spending the majority of her time serving at the Granger Public Library.

Nell is survived by her husband, Wiley B. Barrett of the Granger/Zillah area, who lovingly cared for our mother/grandmother for almost 52 years; two sons, Jack (Dawn) Smith, of Juneau, Alaska and Douglas (Deborah) Barrett of Naches; one daughter, Vicki (Dave) Bates of Lompoc, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Brenda Austin of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, William Donald Smith Jr.; and an infant granddaughter, Lori Ann Bates.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, from noon to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Zillah Cemetery in Zillah.
