Leonard Earl Sears, 83, of Mabton died on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Grandview Healthcare Center.

He was born Dec. 6, 1926 in Cortez, Colo. to Lynard and Anna Louise (Owens) Sears.

He served in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.

In April of 1948 he married Betty Brown in Grandview. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Sears of

Mabton; a son, Calvin Sears of Spokane; a daughter, Janice Jenkins of Mabton; four grandsons; six great- grandchildren; one sister, Daisy Leuning of Kalispell, Mont.; two brothers, Howard Sears of Toledo and Harvey Sears of Cook; several nieces and nephews; and one adopted daughter, Gin Trujillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynard and Anna Sears; and one brother, Alvin Sears.

At Mr. Sear's request no formal services will be held.

Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
