Herminia T. Gomez, 80, of Sunnyside passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at home. She had been living in Mercedes, Texas for 5 years.
Herminia was born May 12, 1929, in Relampago, Texas to Guillermo A. Trevino and Elena (Gutierrez) Trevino.
In June of 1949 she married Manuel A. Gomez and migrated from Texas to Washington for many years, finally settling in Sunnyside in 1968.
She worked alongside her husband for Bob Desserault. She later worked at Yakima Bait Company for 15 years. She enjoyed cooking and embroidering, but she most enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports.
Herminia is survived by two sons, John Gomez (Belinda) of Grandview and Manuel Gomez, Jr. (Deanne) of Sunnyside; five daughters, RosaLinda Gomez Flores of Mercedes, Janie Sabedra (Lorenzo), Maria Victoria Ramos (Ernesto) and Virginia Amador (Robert), all of Sunnyside and Maria Guadalupe Clossey (Leonard) of West Richland; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Guadalupe Trevino, Gilberto Trevino and Guillermo Trevino, all of Mercedes; and three sisters, Enedina Gonzales of Progreso, Texas, Herlinda Ortiz of San Jose, Calif. and Elisa Galvan of Mercedes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel; her parents; an infant son, Jose Luis Gomez; three brothers, Jose Javier Trevino, Gustavo Trevino and Genovevo Trevino; and one sister, Elida Villarreal.
Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, from 1 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iglesia Bautista Missionary Fund or the Mercedes Food Pantry.
