The Sunnyside City Council on Monday, despite not being an official item on Monday's agenda, voted to approve Mark Gervasi as Sunnyside's new city manager.
Gervasi has been the city manager of Tillamook, Ore.
Gervasi was one of four finalists interviewed last Friday for the vacancy. The other three were Marty Wine, Jerry Gilham and Byron Olson, who currently serves as Sunnyside's finance director.
Councilman Nick Paulakis last night moved to hire Gervasi. The motion was seconded by Councilman Don Vlieger.
Councilwoman Theresa Hancock said, "We had a lot of talented candidates...I feel Gervasi and (Finance Director Byron) Olson would make a great team. (Marty) Wine and (Jerry) Gilham will make great city managers if they are selected somewhere else."
Mayor Jim Restucci and Councilman Pablo Garcia will negotiate the contract with Gervasi. A letter of offer was, following Monday's city council meeting, presented to Gervasi and tentatively accepted.
If he accepts the city's offer, Gervasi will be paid $98,000 annually. He will also receive medical, optical and dental insurance, as well as other benefits provided under the city's current policies.
