The Thursday, June 10, front page story was incorrect when it stated that formal approval by the Sunnyside City Council is required to validate the pay hikes of the mayor, deputy mayor and city councilmen, approved Wednesday by the Sunnyside Council Salary Commission. The city's municipal code stipulates that decisions made by the Commission to raise or lower the salaries of the city council are final. The pay increases or decreases, however, are subject to referendum petition by the people of Sunnyside, in the same manner as a city ordinance upon filing of such petition with the city clerk within 30 days after the filing of the new salary schedule. In the event a valid referendum petition has been filed, the city council salary increase or decrease does not go into effect until approved by a vote of the people.
