Baccalaureate for SHS seniors set for this Thursday

Sunnyside High School seniors will receive a spiritual send-off this coming Thursday evening.

As tradition dictates, the Sunnyside Ministerial Association will again host this year's baccalaureate service. Open to the entire community, the special service will be staged Thursday, June 3, the night before commencement exercises, at the Sunnyside High School auditorium, beginning at 7 p.m.

"This is a worship service that celebrates the accomplishments of the graduates," said Rev. Katie Haney of the Sunnyside Ministerial Association. Baccalaureate, she added, is a time for giving thanks to God for the graduates' progress to this point in their lives, "...and offers prayerful support for their future endeavors."

Rev. Bob North of the Sunnyside Neighborhood Assembly of God Church will serve as the guest speaker this coming Thursday. Dave Martinez, an administrator at Sunnyside High School, will give the charge to this year's SHS grads.

Thursday's baccalaureate service will also include readings by several of this year's graduates, as well as a musical selection designed specifically for the worship service.
