Safety coordinator to head county's gang commission

Randy Town, longtime school safety coordinator for Yakima-based ESD 105, has been selected to coordinate the Yakima County Gang Commission.

Yakima County commissioners announced yesterday, Monday, that Town has been hired as coordinator for the commission, which was formed just last month.

Funding for the position is part of Yakima County's anti-gang federal appropriation through the office of juvenile justice and delinguency prevention program. The commission will contract with ESD 105 for Town's services.

As coordinator, Town will provide technical expertise to optimize efforts among the 14 communities represented on the gang commission.

The goal will be to develop anti-gang activities and assist in writing grant applications for anti-gang initiatives.

In addition to his work with ESD 105, Town co-chairs the state's gangs in schools task force and two statewide school safety committees.
