Justin Cavasos, 21, of Zillah suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his ankle last night as a result of a drive-by shooting in the area of North 13th Street and North Avenue in Sunnyside.
Sunnyside police, with the assistance of Yakima County Sheriff's deputies, last night (Monday) just after 10:30 p.m. responded to a shots fired call.
At the scene they found Cavasos, who was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital for treatment. He was later released.
Police say the victims and/or witnesses in the incident have not been helpful with the investigation. "Therefore information is extremely limited at this time," shared Public Information Officer Charlotte Hinderlider.
Sunnyside officers have also since yesterday received two reports of shoplifters at Walmart and a report of a stolen trailer in the 300 block of East Blaine Avenue.
Officers, too, have responded to three automatic alarm calls, three reports of animal problems, two assault incidents, a citizen dispute, two disorderly conduct incidents, three fights, three juvenile problem calls, seven suspicious activity calls, a traffic call, two reports of trespassers, five vandalism reports and a reported weapon offense.
The Sunnyside Police Department has also since yesterday served two arrest warrants and provided two agency assists, as well as a citizen assist.
