DSN failed to 'put a face' on those who got pink slips

The Daily Sun News did not "put a face" on its June 2 article regarding the layoffs in the Sunnyside School District. I see the pain on three of those faces every day, plus more that are being "moved" out of their current positions.

These are the faces of people who work directly with children, either as a teacher, supervisor or someone who just takes the time to listen to the problems of our "little ones". These are the faces of the people that risk their own safety to stand in the street to protect the children from those unwilling to stop for 30 seconds to let a child cross the street. These people have actually been hit by cars refusing to stop. These are the faces of the people who at times have the greatest impact on student lives.

I know this because I have been doing their same types of jobs for nearly 25 years in the Sunnyside School District. We are the faces at the bottom of the totem pole.

On the same page as the pink slip article was an article in which Dr. Cole talked about a "newly created position" for Sunnyside High School Principal Brian Hart. Is the public aware of how many of those "pink slip" people (that have a daily direct impact on children) could have kept their jobs for the salary of that newly created position? Is the public aware of how many positions (district office level) Dr. Cole has "created" since he was hired as Superintendent for the Sunnyside School District (for example the seven vice principals at the high school).

Thank you for taking the time to read about "the people at the bottom of the totem pole".
