Maria Cantu, of Granger our beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend was called by the Lord on Sunday, June 6, 2010. Maria passed on from this life to the next in the comfort of her own home at the prime age of 65. Maria was born in Edinburg, Texas. She was born the second child of 21 children of Galdino and Dominga Cantu.

When Maria was about 17 years old, she and her family moved to Crewport. The family finally moved to Granger, where Maria lived the remainder of her life.

Maria was always loving, active, open-hearted and an outgoing person. She was at her best, when she was being a homemaker, raising her 20 brothers and sisters while her parents went to work.

Maria was loved and respected by many for her hard work and dedication to her family.

Maria enjoyed cooking, sewing and most of all being with family and friends.

Maria was a big fan of Vicente Fernandez and absolutely loved and enjoyed all of his music.

Maria's spirit will live on through her surviving children, Damian Eduardo Cantu Sr. and Adreeana Cantu; her father, Galdino Cantu Sr.; a Godson, Anthony Caleb Guzman; her four grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Damian Eduardo Jr., Abel Benjamin Cantu Jr., Monique Anissa (princess) Cantu and Esteban Jesus Cantu; her siblings, Leonardo Cantu Sr., Anselmo Cantu Sr., Galdino Cantu Jr., Atilano Cantu, Pedro Cantu Sr., Miguel Cantu, Antonio Cantu Sr., Andres Cantu Sr., Samuel Cantu Sr., Francisca Ovalle, Beatrice Cavasos, Manuela Cantu, Oralia Cantu and Delia Cantu; and pets, Fifi, Mamacita and Blue Boy.

Maria was preceded in death by her son, Abel Benjamin Cantu Sr.; brothers, Juan and Roberto Cantu; sisters, Anita, Bertha, Estella and Sandra Cantu; and her mother, Dominga Cantu.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima.
