A new era in Lower Valley men's softball was cemented last night as the New Era team romped to a 17-1, 26-20 sweep over defending champ Sportscenter Lounge/Darigold (SL/D).
With Thursday night's sweep, New Era improved its season record to 8-0 in Lower Valley Men's Softball Association play.
SL/D came into last night's key twin bill with just one loss, riding a five game winning streak. New Era changed that, though, as Lino Gutierrez and Scott Perkins each smacked four home runs.
Gutierrez and Perkins were 7-9 and 6-9 at the plate for the day, respectively.
Earlier this week, New Era dispatched Puterbaugh General Construction/Krush (PGC/Krush) in a doubleheader sweep that saw both games shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Also this week, PGC/Krush was in the most competitive contest so far this season as it fell 13-12 in extra innings to Team Impact/El Valle (TI/EV).
A second game between the two teams was postponed after the first inning due to injury.
TI/EV trailed PGC/Krush 8-0 before rallying for seven runs in the third inning. Pitcher Jeff Serl keyed the rally with a two-run double.
The contest was tight the rest of the way before Timmy Briones delivered the game winning hit for TI/EV with two outs in the eighth inning.
Briones had three RBI in the game and went 4-5 at the plate, while teammate Nick Uribe was 3-4 with two RBI.
In other action last night, the Wild Boyz moved up into a tie for second place with a sweep over Sunnyside Community Hospital/Sunnyside Fire Department (SCH/SFD).
Both games were shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
The Wild Boyz were paced by Chris Longoria, Steve Rodriguez and Jesse Montelongo who all had a 6-7 day at the plate.
New Era 8-0
Wild Boyz 5-3
