Simon (Tio) Rodriguez, 80, of Mabton passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Grandview.

Mr. Rodriguez was born March 30, 1930 in La Feria, Texas.

He migrated to Mabton in 1950, with his mother and sister.

He worked at various agricultural jobs until obtaining permanent full-time employment at Pacific Coast Nursery in Sunnyside. He worked as a field boss at the nursery for 26 years before he became disabled.

Simon worked hard until his illness prevented him from employment.

He had many special friends from the nursery and enjoyed reminiscing about good times in the fields.

He was a social person and enjoyed visiting with his buddies down at the Silver Dollar. He also enjoyed going for drives in his El Camino pickup, raising a garden and eating!

His last four years were spent at Orchard House in Grandview, where he made new friends and continued some old friendships. A good friend who was always true, Dale Smasne, visited frequently. The staff at Orchard House went over the top in caring for Tio, the family would like to publicly thank them for all they have done.

He is survived by one sister, Concepcion Navarro of Mission, Texas; three special nephews, Clemente Trevino, Jr. (Vikki), of Columbus, Ohio and Ruben (Denise) Trevino of Vernonia, Ore.; and Gilbert (Margi) Trevino of Grandview; a special niece, Melinda Russell of Yakima; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday, June 21, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Mabton Cemetery.

Prosser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
