24-year-old Sunnyside man sentenced to more than 19 years in prison

Adrian Ozuna, 24, of Sunnyside last Friday was sentenced to 235 months in jail, stemming from charges waged against him on Sept. 20, 2008.

On that date Sunnyside police officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 700 block of Yakima Valley Highway.

Ozuna, say authorities, forced another individual into a vehicle at gunpoint. Sunnyside officers attempted a traffic stop to make contact with the suspect, but were led on a high speed pursuit, lasting more than six miles.

The suspect blew 13 stop signs, traveled in oncoming traffic lanes through residential streets and attempted to drive over an officer once the vehicle was stopped.

Ozuna fled on foot from the 1300 block of Irving Avenue, say police. He ran through five residential properties before officers apprehended him in the 1400 block of Irving Avenue.

Ozuna was charged with first degree robbery and sentenced to 129 months for his crime. Another 22 months was tacked on for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, and he will serve an additional 84 months for second degree assault.
