GRANDVIEW - Grandview High School's Payton Parrish was named a CWAC girls basketball All-League selection for 2009-10.
The 5'10" guard/post was named to the second team, the only freshman from the 10-school league making the list.
"She led the team in just about every category," Grandview Coach Paul Van Pelt said.
Parrish averaged 13 points a game during the season's 22 contests, scoring a total of 295 points. She shot a season average of 75 percent at the free throw line (89-for-144), pulled down 246 rebounds throughout the season, dished off 27 assists and played the thief 33 times. Parrish also recorded 34 blocks over the season.
Van Pelt said that Parrish was extremely vital to the Lady Greyhounds this season. Last season's senior standouts, Kinzi Poteet and Doris Lupercio, accounted for 85 percent of the scoring from the 2008-09 team.
Van Pelt had to find a way to fill that void this season and looked to Parrish and junior Jessica Lopez. Midway through the season the Greyhounds lost Lopez to an injury.
"As a freshman she stepped up and led the team," Van Pelt said of Parrish. "We would have been three-and-something without her. She's a go-getter, has great moves and plays with tremendous heart and hustle."
Led by Parrish, Grandview went 6-16 for the season, but lost in a loser-out District tournament play-in game.
Van Pelt said he is excited to have Parrish and Lopez back next season. He also said the eighth grade class has some promising ball players coming up next year, which is expected to make for an exciting season for the Lady Greyhounds.
