Sunnyside man sentenced to six-year prison term

On Dec. 30, 2008 two vehicles and a home in the 200 block of SW Crescent Avenue in Sunnyside were struck with bullets fired from a gun Javier Mendoza, 26, had stolen.

He was on March 5, 2010 found guilty and sentenced to 75 months in jail for first degree assault with a weapon as a result of his actions.

Officers, on the night of the shooting, recovered spent casings in the driveway of the residence Mendoza fired at, and witnesses led them to another home where he was believed to have been hiding.

After setting a perimeter around the home, the officers were able to arrest Mendoza as he attempted to flee through a back window.

A search warrant for the home was secured and executed, resulting in the recovery of a .40 caliber Glock that was stolen.

Also taken into custody Dec. 30, 2008, was Ymelda Guizar, 21, a resident of the home Mendoza was hiding in.
