BENTON CITY - It was the second match of the season and the Mabton Vikings took to the field prepared for the non-league match-up against Kiona-Benton yesterday.
The Vikings took a quick lead in the first minute of the match off a goal made by Tony Espinoza.
On their way to a 2-0 victory Mabton grew confident from the first goal, and took control of the field.
The score was 1-0 at the half and Assistant Coach Mike Davis said the closing half went at a slower pace.
Nine minutes after the second half began the Vikings scored the final goal of the match off a crossing pass to Juan Aguilar.
Gilbert Garcia, Lorenzo Sanchez and Crisantos Chavez turned up the defensive pressure.
"(The trio) took over and kept the Bears to no goals, but the Bears did have a couple of shots at the goal from Jose Solorzano, the Ki-Be forward, that went wide of the net," said Davis.
The Bears made five attempts at the goal and Viking keeper Gerardo Barajas did well to save four balls.
Offensively, Mabton (1-0-1) made eight attempts at the goal.
The Vikings next take on the Connell Eagles at home tomorrow (Saturday).
