MABTON - The Mabton Vikings are off to a great beginning with a second season win this past Saturday.
The Vikings (2-0-1) secured a 4-2 non-league victory over visiting Connell, building confidence for the season ahead.
"The team is beginning to know each other and this is picking up the team's spirit and game," said Assistant Coach Mike Davis.
The Vikings opened the game by scoring at the 11-minute mark on a crossing route, recalled the coach.
The Eagles, too, were determined. Connell's Heriberto Mendoza slipped the ball past Viking keeper Gerardo Barajas.
Approximately three minutes later, Viking Josh Carrasco followed suit and scored a second goal.
Mabton was up 2-1 at the half and the Eagles fought for control, with another goal off the foot of Ivan Barragan at the 45-minute mark on a penalty kick.
Less than a minute later, said Davis, Mabton came back. Juan Aquilar scored a go-ahead goal.
Mabton's Tony Espinoza got the final goal between the crossbars at the 60-minute mark, securing the 4-2 win.
Barajas had nine saves in the match and Eagle keeper Salvador Gomez had five.
The Vikings take on the Toppenish Wildcats tomorrow (Tuesday) at home.
