WARDEN - "Mabton awakened too late," Mabton Assistant Coach Mike Davis commented on his team's 2-1 overtime loss to the Warden Cougars this past Saturday.
The Cougars opened the match by scoring the first goal at the 10-minute mark.
The Vikings were able to hold off Warden's attack through the rest of the opening half, and woke up in the second half to score at the 76-minute mark.
The Cougars continued with the attack and made three more attempts to get the ball past Mabton keeper Gerardo Barajas.
The Vikings, undaunted made two other attempts at the home team's goal, but Warden keeper Martin Aguilar was able to make the saves, sending the two teams into overtime.
The Cougars scored at the three-minute mark in OT to win the match.
"The Warden Cougars played hard and won a great match," the coach shared.
Mabton (2-3-1) next plays the Grandview varsity team in a non-league match-up on the Greyhounds' field this coming Saturday, April 3.
