Armed robbers hit Sunnyside Sears store

The Sunnyside Sears store was yesterday (Sunday) at approximately 5 p.m. robbed by six unknown assailants.

Sunnyside police were told three females and three males entered the store. One of the male suspects displayed a handgun and demanded everyone inside the store get down on the floor. He demanded employees give him and his associates money.

The employees did as they were told and the suspects were given an undisclosed amount of money, according to authorities. The suspects also stole merchandise from the store.

After the suspects fled the scene, one employee was noted as missing, but she was later found.

The robbery is currently under investigation and anyone with information about the crime is urged to contact Sunnyside police detectives at 836-6200.

In other police news, another robbery was reported at Sunnyside's Central Park last Friday at approximately 5:16 p.m. A man in the park became a victim when a male suspect wearing what the victim described as gang attire demanded his wallet. The victim fled the park after the alleged incident.

Sunnyside police have also investigated five burglaries and two thefts, an arson and four reports of shots fired since last Thursday.

One shooting incident in the area of North 16th Street and East North Avenue yesterday at about 11:30 a.m. resulted in police locating casings in the roadway. A witness told police three male juveniles were seen fleeing the scene.

Also reported to police since last Thursday were four assaults, three fights, a fraud and 24 traffic problems. Sunnyside officers have also served five arrest warrants.
