RICHLAND - Despite a third-place finish at the latest stop on the 2010 Columbia Basin Senior Golf Tour, the Black Rock Creek team still is sitting atop the points standings.
The 2010 standings show that the Sunnyside Black Rock Creek senior golfers, who have won the tour title the last three years, are in first with 43 team points. One point back at 42 is the Pendleton Country Club squad, with the Columbia Point Golf Course team in third with 36 points.
It was the Pendleton Country Club team that closed ground on Black Rock Creek by taking top honors at last week's stop at Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course. The Pendleton squad tallied a team score of 740 last week. Ten strokes back at 750 for a runner-up finish in the May 12 competition was the host Horn Rapids squad. Black Rock Creek finished third last week with a team tally of 764. Columbia Point was a distant fourth with a score of 797, with Desert Aire claiming the final Top 5 spot with an aggregate score of 811.
Black Rock Creek's low individual round at Horn Rapids last week was turned in by Akira Nozaka. He carded a 5-over-par 77. Tom Diener had the second low round for the Sunnyside-area team, shooting an 88.
On the net side of the scoring sheet (actual score minus handicap), Larry Kleingartner was the only Black Rock Creek golfer to shoot below his scoring average. He had a net 70. Shooting a handicap-aided 73 and 74 for Black Rock Creek were Bernie Schutt and Stan Davis, respectively.
Gross skins winners in the May 12 senior tour competition included Black Rock Creek's Bob Barker and Loran Hancock for scoring 3's on holes No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
The next stop on the senior golf tour is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, at Desert Aire Golf Course. All Black Rock Creek seniors planning to play that day are asked to sign up in the local pro shop no later than Monday, May 24.
