Gerald "Gary" Eugene McComas, 61, a resident of Maupin, Ore., passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at a care facility in Maupin.

He was born Aug. 17, 1948 in Sunnyside, the oldest of three children to Wilber D. and Amelia M. (Graff) McComas.

He grew up in Grandview and Sunnyside area of the Yakima Valley in Washington.

Gary moved from Sunnyside to Goldendale, to Rufus, Ore., and settling in Maupin.

He worked as a laborer and developed a passion for working with his hands handcrafting many wood, leather and metal creations, which were always given or shared with others.

He is survived by his two brothers, Wilber "Bill" (Sherry) McComas, Jr. of Camano Island and Richard "Rick" (Debbie) McComas of Goldendale; his niece, Sara (Josh) McComas-Sallin and great-nephew, Kellan all of Vancouver; his stepbrother, Eugene "Gene" McComas; his stepsister, Darlene (Dennis) McComas-Delano; his uncle, Robert "Bob" (Marie) McComas of Sedro Woolley; along with many, many more aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in the Graff and McComas families.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Private cremation will be held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles, Ore. with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in charge of a arrangements.

A memorial service will be held at a later date by the family.
