WENATCHEE - The Sunnyside High School boys and girls cross country teams battled, but were unable to advance a runner to the 3A State meet during the Regional meet held this past Saturday.
"Juan Reynoso was our best hope, and he was 26th," said Coach George Paulus.
The top 15 runners in the boys and girls meets advanced to State.
The Sunnyside boys team finished in seventh place with 193 points. North Central won the boys meet with 37 points.
The individual winner at Regionals among boys was Kamiakin's Anthony Armstrong in 14:47.20.
Reynoso led Sunnyside with a time of 16:04.35, followed by Nathan Gonzalez, who recorded his best time of the year to finish in 34th place in 16:15.14.
Rounding out the Sunnyside boys top five were Omar Cantu (47th, 16:50.96), Jaime Garcia (59th, 17:52.28) and Freddie Roman (61st, 18:04.37).
The only recorded time for the Sunnyside girls squad was Jocelyn Yanez, who finished 44th out of 62 runners with a time of 21:08.30.
Shadle Park won the girls Regional team title with 43 points.
