Three killed in vehicle rollover

An accident claimed the lives of three Sunnyside residents early Sunday morning near Richland.

The vehicle was heading westbound on I-182 when the driver failed to negotiate a right curve, which caused the vehicle to exit the roadway and roll.

Killed were Joel Barajas, 32, Bertha A. Barajas, 28, and Cristian Valdez, 8. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Three children survived the accident. A 10-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl were transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland. They were both wearing restraints. A two-year-old child was found uninjured. The child was also wearing restraints.

Washington State Troopers are investigating the accident. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.
