Lenard Gottlieb Beierle Sr., 74, of Prosser passed away on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, in Yakima, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 19, 1936 in St. Ignatius, Mont. to Fred and Maria "Lou" (Graff) Beierle.

Lenard with his family came to Washington in 1941. He attended schools in Sunnyside.

On June 10, 1958 Lenard married Patricia June McDonald at her parent's home in Mabton.

They made their first home in Halfway, Ore. later returning to the Yakima Valley. Lenard and Pat were blessed with five children, Steven, Kevin, Virginia, Lenard Jr. "Red" and Sandra.

Lenard's first job was baling hops for Bob Desserault in Mabton. He then was employed by Flodin, Inc in Sunnyside, where he learned the trade of manufacturing food processing equipment. In 1968 Lenard started Kenasco, Inc. in Prosser. In 1972 Lenard and his brother Fred started B & B Equipment in Prosser. Lenard and Patty later became sole owners of B & B Equipment. Lenard retired from B & B in the summer of 2001.

Lenard enjoyed a good challenge, so in 1981 he and his brother, Fred designed and built an alternative fuel machine.

Lenard participated with Fred in the "Future Fuels Challenge Rally," traveling from Los Angeles, Calif. to New York City, finishing in first place.

Lenard had a love for music and was a very talented self taught musician, playing the guitar and singing in various bands including his own bands "The Rattlesnake Rangers" and "The Twisters."

Lenard was always ready to pick up his guitar and jam anytime. Lenard would frequently play and sing songs to his children such as "Candy Kisses" and "You Are My Sunshine" which will be greatly missed.

Lenard is survived by his wife, Patty; his children, Steve (Jodi), Virginia (Ray) Nicholson, Lenard Jr. "Red" and Sandra (Dean) Desserault; his 11 grandchildren, Rachael, Sarah, Amanda and Heather Hickle, Maci, Hayden and Raynor Beierle, Rebekka and Wyett Beierle, Jadelynn Howard and Lacey Desserault; his brothers, Fred (Pat), Raymond (Carole), and Victor (Sharon); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law. Lenard was preceded in death by his infant son, Kevin; his parents; his parents-in-laws; a sister, Toots; a special grandson, Phillip Hickle; a brother-in-law, Steven Naegeli; a niece, Karen Delaney; two nephews, Bill and Les Beierle; and lastly his blue heeler, Sammy.

Viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at noon, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 801 Luther Lane in Prosser, with interment to follow at Prosser Cemetery, Food and fellowship to follow at Messiah Lutheran Church.
