Outdoor burning ended last week

The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency is reminding people that the opportunity for outdoor burning ended on Friday, Oct. 15.

Residential outdoor burn permits, issued through the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency, are only valid during the burn period which runs from March 15 to Oct. 15 each year. The permits can be renewed annually.

These permits, which cost $43 to $46, only authorize the burning of natural materials, such as yard waste, tree trimmings, prunings, twigs and leaves.

Burning plastics, paper, cardboard, chemicals, metals and processed wood, such as lumber, plywood and fiberboard, is always prohibited, as are the use of burn barrels.

Violation of the burn ban or burning unauthorized material can result in fines or penalties.

For more information regarding outdoor burning, contact the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency at (509) 834-2050.
