The Sunnyside Lady Grizzly soccer team had 39 shot attempts last night on the way to a 2-0 win over visiting Kennewick.
Sunnyside ended the season Tuesday night with its third win of the campaign, two of the victories over the Lions.
Last night's victory saw Sunnyside get on the scoreboard in just the eighth minute of play when Erica Garcia scored on an assist by Laura Carillo.
Sunnyside pulled ahead 2-0 just before the half when Ruby Herrera scored off an assist from Gabby Perez.
Sunnyside Coach Sylvia Villagrana said her team could have won by much more than a 2-0 score.
"We had beautiful shots from everywhere but they went either over the goal or to the side," she said.
On this night one goal would have been plenty for the Lady Grizzlies, as keeper Perla Ponce stopped all three Kennewick shot attempts.
Villagrana said the way her team played last night showed continued progress. "The girls have gotten better than I could have imagined," she said. "I'm proud that we didn't let any teams get to double digits (in goals) this year."
She said the keys to last night's win included better communication and better judgment in getting after the ball.
Villagrana says she hopes that ending the season on a winning note will translate into more success next year.
"The girls have a better understanding of what I expect from them," the coach said.
Sunnyside finished its 2010 fall campaign with a 2-12 mark in 3A Columbia Basin Big Nine league play, 3-13 overall.
