A trend towards cooler than normal temperatures and above normal precipitation levels is expected to continue in the Sunnyside area through the month of April.
That's according to the National Weather Service's climate prediction center.
In a report issued yesterday, Monday, the service notes that normal high temperatures for Sunnyside in April increase from 64.6 degrees at the start of the month to 68.7 degrees at the end of April.
Normal lows in April range from 37.7 to 40.7 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation in April is a little more than half an inch.
A cool, wet April isn't a surprise, considering Sunnyside averaged colder than normal temps during the month of March and precipitation was nearly twice the normal amount for the month.
The average temperature here in March was 41.9 degrees, which was 4.3 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 52.4 degrees, which was 6.1 degrees below normal.
The highest temperature last month was 68 degrees on March 31.
Low temperatures averaged 31.4 degrees last month, which was 2.5 degrees below normal. The lowest was 22 degrees, on March 5.
There were 17 days in March with the low temperature below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 1.12 inches during March, which was .49 inches above normal.
Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch - was received on 14 days with the heaviest, .22 inches reported on March 28.
Precipitation this year in the Sunnyside area has reached 1.69 inches, which is .11 inches below normal. Since October 2010, the water year precipitation at Sunnyside has been 5.7 inches, which is 1.51 inches above normal.
